Logan StadnykObjection
Dunedin South
This objection does not relate to a boundary change
This objection relates to a name change
Logan StadnykThis electorate is going to be called Dunedin South. and while it does include the southern suburbs of Dunedin, it also has a significant population in the Clutha District, I think that many people in Milton, Lawrence, Balclutha and Kaitangata will be uncomfortable about the name and I think a different name would be appropriate.Suggested solutionA different name for the electorate, perhaps "Central-South Otago" or "Lower Otago" |

Matthew GregoryI support the boundary recommendation from the commision.Suggested solutionI recommend that the name be changed to Clutha Taieri. This would more represent the area included and the seat would derive the name from the culturally significant Taieri River - The fourth longest river in New Zealand which runs the length of the seat. |

Gaye CowieWe support the boundary changes recommend for Dunedin South. Most of the Clutha area that is being shifted aligns more with Dunedin than Southland. We recommend that the electorate is named Taieri being the name of the river that runs through the heart of the area. |

Adam DartonI support the boundary recommendation for Dunedin South by the Commission. Including the Clutha district with Taieri is culturally fitting and means the Taieri Plains will be serviced by the same Member of Parliament rather than two. Dunedin South provides schools, businesses, medical centres and opportunities for people in Clutha/Taieri region.Suggested solutionKeep the boundaries as is. |

Mr Simon SmallQueenstown should have its own MP because it has such unique tourism challenges.Suggested solutionTo have the tourism parts of the lakes including Te Anau, Queenstown (Wakatipu) and Wanaka joined up and with a new electorate. While leaving the remainder parts to be part of Clutha-Southland and Waitaki combined. |

Clutha-Southland
This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection does not relate to a name change
Anthony KingThe Queenstown lakes district, including Queenstown, Wanaka and Cromwell is an area that has very similar interests, people, and requirements. However currently, Wanaka and Cromwell are split into the Waitaki electorate, whereas Clutha Southland includes a large area of rural Southland. Waitaki is also a largely rural electorate. This means that the MPs are balancing majorly different requirements for their constituents.Suggested solutionMake an electorate using primarily the Queenstown Lakes District Council area, then include a lot of the Central Otago area. The rural areas of the existing Waitaki and Clutha Southland areas can then either be added to nearby electorates, or an additional electorate that services the largely rural areas from these two electorates can be combined instead of splitting the Queenstown lakes area between two electorates. |

Clutha-Southland
This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection does not relate to a name change
Mr Geoffrey ThomsonBoundary adjustments appear based solely on population movements, rather than communities if interest.Suggested solutionThe Southern Lakes area (Lake Hawea in the north-east to Lake Manapouri in the south-west to Alexandra in the south-east) is a community of interest based on tourism. A new "Southern Lakes" electorate should be formed to cover these areas, and the remaining Clutha-Southland and Waitaki electorate areas combine to form a separate new "Clutha-Waitaki" electorate, whose community of interest would be rural, resource-based industries. This would allow the "Southern Lakes" MP to focus on major tourist issues, and be the "go-to" voice for these issues in Parliament. |

Clutha-Southland
This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection does not relate to a name change
Malc HodgeI live in Alexandra which is currently in the Waitaki Electorate. It is proposed that we become part of the Clutha Southland electorate. Alexandra (if you don't know) is in CENTRAL OTAGO. It is not in Clutha or Southland. Central Otago takes in the two largest towns of Alexandra & Cromwell, which have a common Mayor. While the proposed changes would move Alexandra, Cromwell would remain in the Waitaki electorate. This is just crazy. At the same time Wanaka which is part of the QLDC (Central Otago area) would remain in the Waitaki electorate. Again crazy. What is needed and would make more sense is to have a CENTRAL OTAGO electorate which takes in all of the CODC area and the QLDC area. This whole area (particularly Queenstown & Wanaka and to a slightly lessor extent, Cromwell & Alexandra are growing at an enormous rate as such we deserve and need our own Electorate rather than being lumped into areas with which we have no natural or logical association. I trust common sense will prevail in this matter.Suggested solutionAs noted above. |

This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection does not relate to a name change
Alexa ForbesQueenstown and Wanaka are combined as in a common Territorial Authority and are part of a common ward of the Otago Regional Council, yet are split at national level. This makes no sense at all and makes it incredibly difficult for its common interests to be represented nationally. Queenstown and Wanaka, combined with Te Anau and Cromwell, are a community of interest (tourism) and should be treated as such. Tourism issues get lost in the agricultural ones as these towns are uncomfortably paired with predominantly rural areas.Suggested solutionRedraw the boundaries to bring together all of the Queenstown Lakes District, Te Anau and Cromwell as an electorate that has common interests and common issues. |

Mrs Rachel RoseQueenstown Lakes needs it’s own boundary. Our population has increased significantly and the challenges that we face differ greatly to the rest of the Clutha region. I lived in the Far North where Whangarei had its own electorate. Queenstown needs it’s own MP. As an HR manager in a tourism company and a volunteer at CAB I see the requirements for a local MP every day. Our current MP does his best but he is too stretched.Suggested solutionQueenstown Lakes electorate |

Councillor John MacDonaldIt is crazy that the Queenstown Lakes District and surrounding high growth tourism destinations are split up when there is a logical grouping that should have its own representation in Wellington.Suggested solutionA new electorate that includes Wanaka, Cromwell, Queenstown, Te Anau and Milford Sound and probably Alexandra and redraw Waitaki and Clutha. |

Mrs Kathleen BaffObjection
Clutha-Southland
This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection does not relate to a name change
Mrs Kathleen BaffSplitting the Balclutha area into three separate electorates of Clutha-Southland (current), Invercargill and Dunedin-South, would be detrimental. Balclutha encompasses a solid collective of communities within a variety of towns and rural settlements. For Balclutha to be removed from its name-sake “Clutha”, split 3-ways and be latched onto the edge of the more urban zone of Dunedin-South, would segregate this close-knit community. The dynamics, infrastructure and priorities for the rural areas, settlements and towns of Balclutha and the Clutha District are different to those of Dunedin-South. Balclutha area would lose its sense of cohesion and identiy if it was split into three different Electorates. Balclutha has different priorities, interests, culture and well outside the location of Dunedin-South. Also proposing Owaka to be transfrerred to Invercargill, would break up another close-knit coastal community (from very nearby Kaka Point and Baclutha).Moving Balclutha out of Clutha-Southland and then adding Roxburgh and Alexandra in to balance the numbers, appears more like “robbing Peter to pay Paul”. Balclutha is in Clutha, which is in South Otago, and South Otago is in Clutha-Southland where it should remain. The natural Clutha/Dunedin boundary is the Waipori River, which is exactly where Clutha-Southland and Dunedin-South “borders” currently are. Balclutha is in Clutha, which is in South Otago, and South Otago is in Clutha-Southland where it should remain. Suggested solutionClutha-Southland to remain unchanged except to perhaps give Invercargill a new northern boundary or, say, Tautuku River, if that settlement is happy. This would ensure Owaka remains past of Clutha-Southland (Balclutha). Westwards, the Clutha-Southland electorate would stop at the Beaumont River - leaving the (repairs for) the Beaumont bridge in its current (Waitaki) electorate. For example, and only as suggestions; Riverton, Tuatapere and Night Caps. Again, the people in these towns would need to put forward their own submissions on the matter.Roxburgh and Alexandra would be great to have in Clutha-Southland but that decision is up for their own submissions. |

This objection does not relate to a name change
Mr Benjamin ChapmanThe area affectionately known as The Southern Lakes, and to a broader extent the region east of the Southern Alps from Lake Te Anau north to Lake Tekapo and boarded by State Highway 8 (including the regions of Wakatipu, Wanaka, Hawea, Ohau and Pukaki) are a consistent offering of lake and alpine environments that would benefit if in an inclusive electoral region. This 'Lakes District' in its entirety is an as yet unappreciated greater region of natural and economic significance to New Zealand.Suggested solutionThat this wider region of the 'Lakes District' should be removed from their current electoral regions in which they lie. The current maps are dysfunctional, with the 'Lakes District' natural and economic significance being incompatible with that of the dominant primary industries of Clutha-Southland and Waitaki.A 'Lakes District' electoral region would ensure the regions collective and aligned interests would be championed appropriately. |

Ms Amy Pearlhttp://www.scene.co.nz/opinion/boundaries-that-divide-us/ ~ This link sets all that out. I agree with the opinion in it & for all the reasons stated in itThere’s no pointy in us (In wanaka) being in the Clutha-Southland, it’s like being in the Waitaki. We lose as does government. Culturally, economically & environmentally the area is just too diverse & we don’t have representation. Suggested solutionAs above I support a Fiordland - Queenstown - Wanaka to Alexandra Electorate. A Southern Lakes. Is where we all fit. |

This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection relates to a name change
Mr Dominic TayThe Queenstown Lakes District Council area is divided across two large electorates. Given that this area is predicted to be a high-growth area, it would be sensible to consider uniting this community of interest into a single electorate. With or without my proposed changes, the loss of Balclutha to Dunedin South means that the name for this electorate is no longer suitable. Suggested solutionI recommend the transfer of the communities around Wanaka, Arrowtown and Lake Hawea into Clutha-Southland so the electorate aligns with the Queenstown Lakes District Council boundary. If a consequential population loss is required, I recommend either: • returning the communities around Clyde, Alexandra and Roxburgh from Clutha-Southland to Waitaki; • transferring these same communities from Clutha-Southland to Dunedin South; or • transferring the balance of the Clutha District from Clutha-Southland to Dunedin South (preferred). With or without my proposed changes, the loss of Balclutha to Dunedin South means that the name for this electorate is no longer suitable. Options for names could include 'Milford', 'Wakatipu' (preferred) or 'Southern Lakes'. |

Michael ClarkObjection
Clutha-Southland
This objection relates to a boundary change
This objection relates to a name change
Michael ClarkBeing a resident in the Queenstown Area, I would like to make some suggestions regarding the boundary adjustments to Clutha and Southland.- The Tourist industry needs a member a parliament that is fine tuned to the requirements of the industry. - Adjusting the Clutha – Southland boundary in such a way that the area takes in all of the southern lakes, would define the area by its main industry. - This would give the area its name. - Include Te Anau through to Lake Hawea, the northern boundary being Haast. Include Alexandra Clyde and Cromwell. - Take out of this district, the farming area of south Otago and Northern Southland. The boundary being the Five rivers turnoff through to Mossburn. - The MP that would represent this area would be in tune to the requirements of other key Tourism areas in the country, and would be the logical candidate for the minister of tourism. - Even if the numbers don’t quite add up now by excluding the farming community, this area is growing that fast, it soon will be of size. - This area has issues that are not being dealt with because the present MP is being spread over a huge area. - Can you please have another look at the boundaries around the Clutha Southland area, and see if this is possible. Keeping in mind, sooner than later Queenstown and Wanaka will be around the 60000 residents mark. - For a major part of the year this area must have a population that is close to 60000 now when you count the tourists. |
