The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 25 February Parliamentary by-election in the electorate of Mt Albert.

In the 2017 Mt Albert by-election there were:

  • 45,888 people enrolled.
  • A total of 13,763 votes cast.
  • 4,305 advance votes.
  • 792 special votes, including 94 overseas votes.

The winning majority was 8,931 votes.

Voter turnout for the 2017 Mt Albert by-election was 30% of the 45,888 people enrolled.

The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 14 March 2017 (assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2017 Mt Albert by-election held on Saturday 25 February 2017 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Mt Albert electorate has been prepared.  All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
