Start of the regulated period
The three month regulated period for the general election starts today, and runs up to midnight on 6 November, the day before the election.
Spending limits apply for parties, candidates and third party promoters who publish election advertisements during the regulated period. The spending limits, inclusive of GST, are as follows:

The start of the regulated period is also a key date for:
- the Māori Electoral Option - enrolled Māori voters can't switch rolls from the Māori roll to the general roll, or the general roll to the Māori roll from this date until after the election
- the register of political parties - the Commission can't process applications to register or change party names and logos from this date until after the election.
