One week left for Māori roll choice in Tauranga
Time is running out for Māori to decide which electoral roll to be on for the Tauranga City Council election.
“If you’re Māori, you can choose to be on the Māori electoral roll or general electoral roll for the council election on 20 July,” says Anusha Guler, Deputy Chief Executive Operations.
"Voters who are already enrolled need to make that choice by midnight 19 April. They cannot change rolls in the three months before the election.
“That doesn’t apply to Māori enrolling for the first time who can enrol and make their choice right up until the election,” says Anusha Guler.
Voters on the Māori roll will vote for a candidate in the new Māori ward, and voters on the general roll will vote for candidates in the general wards.
“If you’re Māori and enrolled in the Tauranga City Council area, you should have received an information pack in the mail on your roll choice,” says Anusha Guler.
“If you’re happy with the roll you’re on, you don’t need to do anything. If you’d like to change rolls, you can sign and return the letter in the pack, or make the change online at vote.nz.”
