Data matching used to contact voters
The Electoral Commission is using data matching to contact people who are not enrolled or who may need to update their address on the electoral roll.
Letters, emails and texts will be sent to 170,000 people between Thursday 17 September and Thursday 24 September inviting them to enrol or update their details.
The letters and emails are addressed to the person and explain how we were given their contact information.
We have information matching agreements with the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Department of Internal Affairs. These agreements are overseen by the Privacy Commissioner.

Using data matching is just one of the ways we get in touch with people to keep the electoral rolls up to date and let them know about the 2026 General Election.
