Voting this weekend in the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election
The Electoral Commission is encouraging voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate to make sure they vote and have their say on who will represent them in Parliament.
“After a steady start to voting this week, we are expecting to see an increase in voting with 34 voting places open this weekend for the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election,” says Anusha Guler, Deputy Chief Executive Operations.
The by-election is being held to elect a local MP. You can vote if you are enrolled in the Tāmaki Makaurau Māori electorate. You’re eligible to enrol and vote if you are 18 or older, you’re Māori, and you will have lived in the electorate for one month or more by election day.
If you’re not enrolled yet, you can enrol and vote up to and on election day, which is Saturday 6 September.
Whare Pōti Māori
The Commission is working alongside Māori communities in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate to provide voting places which offer whānau-centred services and where you can go through the voting process in te reo Māori or English.
