Voting gets underway in the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election

Aug 22, 2025 | Media release

Voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate will be able to vote from Monday as the by-election to choose a local member of Parliament gets underway.

Advance voting starts on Monday 25 August and election day is on Saturday 6 September.

“If you’re enrolled in the Tāmaki Makaurau Māori electorate you should receive an EasyVote pack in the mail. It includes an EasyVote card which makes voting faster – but you can vote without it,” says Anusha Guler, Deputy Chief Executive Operations.

“If you haven’t received an EasyVote pack by Monday, it means you’re not enrolled or you need to update your address on the electoral roll. Do it now, so you can have your say in the by-election.

“You can enrol or update your details online at vote.nz. You can also enrol and vote at a voting place.

“Voting places are spread across the electorate where people live and work to make it easy to vote,” says Anusha Guler.

“There will be 54 locations where people can vote early. The days and times advance voting places are open vary, so make sure you check before you go to vote.

“On election day Saturday 6 September, there will be 84 voting places open from 9am to 7pm across the electorate.”

Voting place locations and opening hours are available online at vote.nz or by calling 0800 36 76 56. A list of voting places is included in the EasyVote pack.

Voting for Tāmaki Makaurau voters who are overseas opened on Wednesday 20 August, along with telephone dictation services for voters who are blind, partially blind or have a physical disability that prevents them from marking their voting paper without assistance.
