Two parties apply to register logos

Feb 1, 2023 | News

Consultation is open on applications from two parties to register their logos.

The Electoral Commission is considering an application made under Part 4 of the Electoral Act 1993 to register the following new political party logo for New Conservative.

The Commission is also considering an application to register the following political party logo for Freedoms New Zealand.

Freedoms New Zealand is currently an unregistered party, but has applied for registration. Public consultation on Freedoms New Zealand’s party name closed on 9 December 2022.

Registration of a logo is needed for the logo to appear on a voting paper.

Registration of a party logo may be refused if the logo is indecent, offensive, likely to cause confusion or mislead electors, or contains any reference to a title or honour or similar form of identification or infringes an intellectual property right.

Anyone who wishes to comment on the party logos may do so in writing to the Electoral Commission at:

The deadline for comments is 5pm, 15 February 2023.

For more information on the party logo registration process see elections.nz/guidance-and-rules/for-starting-a-political-party or email enquiries@elections.govt.nz or phone 04 495 0030 9am–5pm Monday to Friday.
