MoU signed with Shama
The Electoral Commission and Shama have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to increase participation in elections.
The Commission works with a variety of groups to provide information on enrolling and voting to their communities and promote understanding of the electoral system.
The Shama Ethnic Women’s Trust is based in Hamilton and provides social services and support to women, their children and families in Waikato and nationally.
The newly signed agreement puts a framework around the joint goals of the Commission and Shama to increase electoral participation in ethnic communities.
Shama can also support people whose personal safety may be at risk and who need to apply to go on the unpublished roll, so their personal details are not made public.
