Broadcasting Allocation 2020 – Invitation to Political Parties

The Electoral Commission invites political parties that consider themselves eligible for an allocation of broadcasting money for the 2020 General Election to give written notice to the Commission by 5pm, Friday 28 February 2020.

The Commission can only make an allocation to a political party that has given written notice to the Commission by the deadline and that political party is registered with the Commission at the time Parliament is dissolved or expires.

The written notice that a political party gives must include:

a) the full name of the political party, and

b) the contact details of the person providing the notice and the capacity in which they provide the notice, and

c) the contact details of the party secretary, where the person providing the notice is not the party secretary of the political party, and

d) a statement that – 

i. the party is registered on the Register of Political Parties, or 

ii. the party has applied for registration, or 

iii. the party intends to apply for registration so as to be registered at the time Parliament is dissolved or expires, and

e) the details of any relationships that may exist between the party and any other party in New Zealand that the Commission may need to take into account in making an allocation, and

f) whether the party intends to submit a party list under section 127 of the Electoral Act 1993 for the 2020 General Election.

How to give notice

A notice must be in writing and be provided to the Commission by:

delivery to the Commission’s office at Level 4, 34-42 Manner Street, Wellington

Notice must be received by the Commission by 5pm, Friday 28 February 2020.
