Referral to Police
The Electoral Commission has made a referral to the Police over the failure of the party secretary of the New Zealand People’s Party to declare donations over $30,000 within the required time frame.
Failing to file a return within 10 working days of receiving a donation, or aggregated donations, of more than $30,000 is an offence contrary to section 210C of the Electoral Act 1993.
The referral was made to the Police on 18 July. As this matter is now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
