Get ready for the Northcote by-election
Voters should check their enrolment details are up to date now to make voting easy in the Northcote by-election.
A by-election will be held in the Northcote electorate on Saturday 9 June to choose a new local Member of Parliament. Only those who are enrolled in the Northcote electorate will be able to vote.
“If you live in the Northcote electorate, make sure you’re enrolled and ready to vote in the by-election,” says Mandy Bohté, National Manager of Enrolment and Community Engagement.
“Voters who are correctly enrolled before 6 May will be sent an EasyVote pack in the mail. It’ll have information about when, where and how to vote, and include an EasyVote card which will make voting easier.”
Voters who enrol after 6 May will need to cast a special vote, which takes a bit longer.
To be eligible to vote in the Northcote by-election, you need to have lived in the Northcote electorate for a month or more, be 18 years or older and be on the general roll. You must also be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and have lived in New Zealand for one year or more continuously at some point.
“You can check your enrolment details are up to date or download a new enrolment form at www.elections.org.nz,” says Ms Bohté. Enrolment forms are also available from PostShops, or can be requested by phoning 0800 36 76 56 or by texting your name and address to 3676.
