Electoral Commission team making it easy to enrol in Mt Roskill

Oct 25, 2016 | Media release

Orange Guy is going to be hard to miss in the Mt Roskill electorate over the next few weeks, as Registrar of Electors Justine Welsh and her team start hitting the streets.

“We want to make sure every eligible voter in Mt Roskill is on the roll and ready to vote in December’s by-election,” says Justine Welsh, Registrar of Electors, Mt Roskill electorate. “We’re going to be out and about from now until the by-election, to help everyone in our community get the information they need to get enrolled and ready.”

Justine and her team will be at major events, including this Saturday’s Sandringham Street Fair, with enrolment forms and information about the 3 December by-election.

“Being out in the community gives us the chance to remind people to check their details, and help them re-enrol if they need to,” says Justine. “We’ll be at the Sandringham Street Fair all day, so if you need to check, enrol or update your details, look out for our big Orange Guy signs. Our friendly team will be happy to help!”

“We’ll also be at the Wesley Community Centre community markets on Tuesdays and Fridays in the lead-up to the by-election, so come and say hi!”

Enrolling is quick and easy.  Enrolment forms are available from www.elections.org.nz, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, from any PostShop or by calling Freephone 0800 36 76 56.  People can update their details by filling in a new enrolment form or going online at www.elections.org.nz.

Only those who are enrolled in the general electorate of Mt Roskill are entitled to vote in the by-election.

To be eligible to enrol in the Mt Roskill electorate you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over; and
  • Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and
  • Have been living in the Mt Roskill electorate for one month or more.

People can enrol right up until Friday 2 December, but those who enrol after Wednesday 2 November will need to complete a special vote, which takes a little longer.
