Don't miss out on your chance to vote on the New Zealand flag

Feb 23, 2016 | Media release

The enrolment deadline for the second referendum on the New Zealand flag is just over a week away, and the Electoral Commission wants all eligible New Zealanders enrolled and ready to vote.

“There may be many people out there who think they’re enrolled, but because they’ve moved house, or changed their details, their enrolments are no longer accurate,” says Robert Peden, Chief Electoral Officer.

“If you think this might be you, check your details at elections.org.nz or by calling 0800 36 76 56 now, and then fill in a new enrolment form to update your enrolment details. You’ll need to sign it and return it by 2 March so we can send you your voting paper when voting begins.”

Only those correctly enrolled by Wednesday 2 March will be able to vote in the second referendum, and voting papers will be sent out from Thursday 3 March.

“Make sure your voting papers are sent to the right address by checking your details now,” says Mr Peden. “And if you’re not enrolled at all, do it now. It’s not too late.”

People can check that their enrolment details are up to date at elections.org.nz or by calling 0800 36 76 56.

Enrolment forms are available at elections.org.nz, by calling 0800 36 76 56, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, or at any PostShop.

“We want all eligible New Zealanders to have the opportunity to have their say,” says Mr Peden, “so take the time to check your enrolment now.”
