Last chance to enrol to vote in the first flag referendum
The first referendum on the New Zealand flag starts this week, and those wanting to take part have only a few days left to get enrolled.
“If you’re not enrolled yet, this is your absolute last chance to get on the roll and ready to vote in the first referendum on the New Zealand flag,” says Robert Peden, Chief Electoral Officer. “Only those who are enrolled by this Thursday will be able to vote in the first referendum.”
Voting papers will be sent out from this Friday, but can only be sent to those who are enrolled by Thursday 19 November.
In this referendum, voters will be choosing which of five alternative flag designs will go to the second referendum in March. In the second referendum, voters will choose between the current New Zealand flag and the most preferred alternative from the first referendum.
“To have a say on which flag goes to the second referendum, you must enrol now,” says Mr Peden. “Go online at www.elections.org.nz or visit a Postshop now to complete an enrolment form.”
