Referral to Police 3 October 2014
On 1 October 2014, the Electoral Commission referred Robert Wilkinson, Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party candidate for Christchurch East, to Police for distributing a letter promoting his candidacy and the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party.
It is the Electoral Commission’s view that the distribution of the letter breached sections 204F and 204H of the Electoral Act as it did not include a promoter statement and was not authorised in writing by the party secretary.
As this matter is now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
