Last Chance to Enrol for the Christchurch East By-election

Nov 20, 2013 | Media release

There’s just over a week left to make sure you’re on the electoral roll and ready to vote in the Christchurch East by-election.

“If you’ve moved house, or have turned 18 since the last election, you will need to get on the roll to have your say in the Christchurch East by-election,” says Glen Clark, Registrar of Electors, Christchurch East Electorate.

“Everyone enrolled in the general electorate of Christchurch East should have received their EasyVote packs in the mail by now. If your EasyVote pack hasn’t turned up, you need to enrol or update your details now.

“The last chance to enrol is Friday, 29 November. You cannot enrol on election day,” he says.

Voters who are outside the Christchurch East electorate temporarily (for example, while their house is being repaired) can stay enrolled in Christchurch East and will be eligible to vote in the by-election.

If people know they will not be returning to their previous home and have lived outside the electorate for more than one month, they need to re-enrol at their new address.

If you need to enrol or update your details – it’s easy! To get an enrolment pack, go online at elections.org.nz, freetext your name and address to 3676, call 0800 36 76 56, or visit any PostShop.

If you can’t send your form in, or visit a Postshop in time, you can visit www.elections.org.nz and fill in the enrolment form, print it, sign and date it, and then either fax it, or scan and upload it at www.elections.org.nz/enrolme or email it. Full instructions are included with the form.

Full information about enrolling to vote is available at www.elections.org.nz.
