Last chance to enrol for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti by-election

Jun 24, 2013 | Media release

Voters have until midnight this Friday June 28 to make sure they can have their say in this Saturday’s Ikaroa-Rāwhiti by-election.

“The by-election is this Saturday, June 29, and if you want to vote, you need to make sure you’re on the roll now,” says Sue Braybrook, Registrar of Electors, Ikaroa-Rāwhiti electorate. “If you’ve moved house, turned 18, or never been enrolled, do it quick. The last chance to enrol is Friday, 28 June. You cannot enrol on election day.”

“Everyone enrolled in the Māori electorate of Ikaroa-Rāwhiti should have received their EasyVote packs in the mail by now. If your EasyVote pack hasn’t turned up in your letterbox, you need to enrol or update your details now.”

To be eligible to enrol in the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti electorate you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over; and
  • Be of New Zealand Māori descent; and
  • Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and
  • Have been living in the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti electorate for one month or more.

“If you need to enrol or update your details – it’s easy!” says Ms Braybrook. “To get an enrolment pack, jump online at elections.org.nz, freetext your name and address to 3676, call 0800 36 76 56, or visit any PostShop.”

For those unable to get to a Postshop, or unsure if they can post their form in time, there are electronic options. Forms can be completed on the Electoral Commission website, printed and signed, then returned by email, fax or secure upload. Find out more here.
