Last chance to choose between Māori and General roll
Time is almost up for Māori to take part in the 2013 Māori Electoral Option.
“If you are Māori and on the electoral roll, this is your last chance to choose which type of electoral roll you want to vote on – the Māori roll or the General roll,” says Murray Wicks, National Manager Enrolment Services. “You’ve only got until next Wednesday July 24, so if you want to make a change, you must do it now.”
During the Māori Electoral Option, Māori can choose whether they want to be on the Māori Electoral Roll or the General Electoral Roll when they vote in the next two General Elections and any by-elections.
“Remember, you can only make your choice once during the Option period,” says Mr Wicks. “You will not be able to change again until the next Māori Electoral Option, which is planned for 2018.”
“If you want to change, and haven’t sent back a signed form yet, you need to be quick. To make your choice you need to get your Māori Electoral Option form back to us by Wednesday 24 July. If you’ve lost your Māori Electoral Option form or didn’t get one you need to fill in an enrolment form.”
