The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 25 June Parliamentary by-election in the electorate of Te Tai Tokerau.

In the 2011 Te Tai Tokerau by-election there were:
  • 32,855 people enrolled.
  • A total of 13,594 votes cast.
  • 1,553 advance votes.
  • 1,983 special votes, including 18 overseas votes.
The winning candidate majority was 1,117 votes.
 
Voter turnout for the 2011 Te Tai Tokerau by-election was 41.38% of the 32,855 people enrolled.
 
The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 12 July 2011 (assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2011 Te Tai Tokerau by-election held on Saturday 25 June 2011 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Te Tai Tokerau electorate has been prepared. All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
