Referral to the Police
The Electoral Commission has referred the following matter to the Police:
- Brendan Horan, newspaper advertisement in the Weekend Sun.
It is the Electoral Commission’s view that the publication of the Brendan Horan and New Zealand First newspaper advertisement in the Weekend Sun on 11 November 2011 constitutes a breach of sections 204F and 204H of the Electoral Act 1993 because the item is an election advertisement that did not contain a valid promoter statement and was not authorised in writing by the party secretary.
As this matter is now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
