New Electoral Rolls Now Open For Public Viewing
Checking that you’re correctly enrolled to vote in this year’s General Election and Referendum just got easier, with the release of the first printed electoral rolls for 2011.
“Printing the electoral rolls is a key part of our electoral process,” says Murray Wicks, National Manager of the Electoral Enrolment Centre. “By law we must produce a complete list of all those currently enrolled to vote, and it gives everyone the opportunity to check that they are enrolled and their details are correct.”
Preliminary electoral rolls with the details of everyone currently enrolled are now available for viewing at local PostShops, public libraries and Registrar of Electors offices.
“If your details don’t appear then you’re not yet enrolled, says Mr Wicks. “If your details are wrong, you need to update them by filling in a new enrolment form.”
“We are urging people to enrol or update their details now to ensure they are ready to vote on Election Day, November 26. It’s definitely not too late to enrol for this year’s election, but we are encouraging people to take the time to do it now.”
Enrolling and updating your details is easy. Simply fill in an enrolment form. Enrolment forms are available by freetexting your name and address to 3676, going online to www.elections.org.nz, at any PostShop or by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56).
The final printed electoral rolls to be used on Election Day will close about a month before Election Day. Everyone who enrols in time to go on the final printed electoral rolls will get an EasyVote information pack in the mail, which will make voting quicker and easier on Election Day. The EasyVote packs will also include detailed information on the Referendum on the Voting System.
