Have your say in the Te Tai Tokerau by-election

Jun 14, 2011 | Media release

Find your closest polling place now to ensure you can have your say in Te Tai Tokerau. That’s the message from the Electoral Commission ahead of the 25 June by-election.

“We’re encouraging people to plan ahead for the Te Tai Tokerau by-election,” says Robert Peden, Chief Electoral Officer. “This is particularly important if you are planning to vote in advance, as locations and opening hours of advance voting facilities are not the same everywhere.”

Advance voting opened across the electorate on 8 June, and a steady stream of people have already successfully cast their votes.

Advance votes in the Te Tai Tokerau by-election can be cast at any of the 16 facilities across the electorate, and can also be cast at the offices of any Registrar of Electors across the country or at the Electoral Commission, Whitmore Street, Wellington.

“There are a number of ways people can find the locations of advance voting facilities for the by-election,” says Mr Peden. “The addresses and opening hours are available at www.elections.govt.nz or from our freephone service at 0800 36 76 56.”

Full information on advance voting facilities and election day polling places will be included in the EasyVote packs to be sent to all voters who were enrolled by 25 May. Eligible voters can enrol until 7pm on Friday 24 June, but not on election day itself.

A list of advance voting places within the Te Tai Tokerau electorate is available here.
