Young people and those who’ve moved house targeted in Mana by-election
People who have moved into or within the Mana electorate and those who aren’t enrolled need to enrol now for the Saturday 20 November by-election.
“Although we’ve just completed an enrolment drive for the local council and district health board elections there will still be many people in the Mana electorate who have become newly eligible to enrol, who have moved house or haven’t enrolled yet,” says Toni Weir, Registrar of Electors, Mana Electorate.
“They need to enrol to vote now. Everyone enrolled in the Mana electorate by Wednesday 20 October, the day the roll used on election day closes for printing, will be sent an EasyVote pack and card that will make voting easier,” says Ms Weir.
To be eligible to enrol in the Mana electorate you must:

Be 18 years of age or over; and
-
Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and

Have lived in the Mana electorate for one month or more.
“Preliminary electoral rolls with the details of everyone enrolled as at 20 August are available for viewing at PostShops and public libraries within the Mana electorate or at Registrars of Electors’ offices throughout the country.
People can also check their enrolment details on the elections website www.elections.org.nz " says Ms Weir.
Currently 96.3% percent of eligible voters in the Mana electorate are enrolled to vote. Of those not enrolled almost 1,400, or 76.3 percent, are aged 18-24.
Enrolling is quick and easy. Enrolment forms are available from the elections website www.elections.org.nz, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, from any PostShop or by calling Freephone 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56).
People can update their details by filling in a new enrolment form or going online to www.elections.org.nz.
Only people enrolled on the General electoral roll for the Mana electorate are eligible to vote in the by-election.
