Time running out to take part in Mana by-election

Nov 13, 2010 | Media release

Time is running out to get enrolled for the Mana by-election – with less than one week left until enrolment closes.

“It’s not too late, but there are only days left to get enrolled or to update your enrolment details in time to vote in the Mana by-election,” says Toni Weir, Registrar of Electors, Mana Electorate.

“Everyone enrolled will have received their EasyVote packs in the mail by now (Saturday 13 November). If your EasyVote pack hasn’t turned up in your letterbox, you need to enrol or update your details now.

“People are already voting in the by-election, and yet there are many locals, particularly young people, who still haven’t enrolled,” says Ms Weir.

“Anyone who hasn’t enrolled yet, or who has it on their list of things to do needs to get moving and enrol now,” she says

“You cannot enrol on election day. The last chance is Friday, 19 November,” says Ms Weir.

The fastest way to enrol in time is to go to www.elections.org.nz and fill in the enrolment form, print it, sign and date it and then either post, fax or scan and email it.

Or people can go to a PostShop and enrol on the spot.

To be eligible to enrol in the Mana electorate you must:
• Be 18 years of age or over; and
• Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and
• Have been living in the Mana electorate for one month or more.

For more information please contact Toni Weir, Registrar of Electors, Mana Electorate, phone 04 568 2751.
