Just a few days left to enrol to vote for local elections

Aug 15, 2010 | Media release

Time is quickly running out to enrol to vote for the local council and district health board elections, with just a few days left until the enrolment deadline.

“The last chance to enrol to vote for the council and district health board elections is Friday 20 August 2010. You must be enrolled to get your voting papers sent to you in the mail,” says Murray Wicks, National Manager of the Electoral Enrolment Centre.

“The hours are counting down. We know some people leave these sorts of things until the last minute. The last minute has arrived. Get enrolled or update your details today.

“Being correctly enrolled to vote, including updating your address details when you move, means you are ready to take part in the local elections, and any by-election or Parliamentary general election or referendum.”

Registrars of Electors have removed 57,600 people nationwide from the electoral roll since the start of the enrolment drive on 5 July. These people have changed address and not updated their enrolment details.

“That’s thousands of people who need to act now and enrol, or they will miss out on getting their local election voting papers.

“Enrolling is easy. Do it here.”

Enrolment forms are available by free texting your name and address to 3676, from your local PostShop or by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56). You can also enrol and check your details here.
