Number of referendum votes cast to date
As at 5.00pm Thursday 13 August 1,330,900 votes had been received by the Chief Electoral Office vote processing centre for the Citizens Initiated Referendum on the question “Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand”.
Votes will not be counted until after voting closes at 7pm on 21 August.
The Chief Electoral Office will provide a further update on the number of voting papers received with the preliminary result on Friday 21 August.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s target to release the preliminary result is by 8.30pm on 21 August.
