Monday 11 May cut off to making voting easer in Mt Albert by-election

May 4, 2009 | Media release

People in the Mt Albert electorate have less than a week to enrol or update their enrolment details to make voting as easy as possible in the 13 June by-election.

“Monday 11 May is the cut off to ensure you get an EasyVote card in the mail and to get onto the printed electoral rolls used in polling places and advance voting places,” says Sharon Reece, Outreach Co-ordinator, Mt Albert Electorate.

“If you’ve moved house or flat since the last election and haven’t changed your address details with us you must do it now.

“If you’re between 18 and 29 years old get enrolled today. We are targeting these locals as they make up most of the not enrolled in the electorate,” says Ms Reece.

“Enrol now and it will be easier and quicker when you vote,” says Ms Reece.

Enrolling is quick and easy.  Enrolment forms are available from the elections website www.elections.org.nz, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, from any PostShop or by calling Freephone 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56).  People can update their details by filling in a new enrolment form or going online to www.elections.org.nz.

The Electoral Enrolment Centre team is out in the community in the Mt Albert electorate encouraging people to enrol to vote and update their details in time.

“If you’ve got a friend, member of the family or someone new to the community who might not be ready to vote in the by-election please give them the message to do enrol now,” says Ms Reece.

To be eligible to enrol in the Mt Albert electorate you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over; and
  • Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and
  • Have lived in the Mt Albert electorate for one month or more.
