Electoral Commission registration decisions and consideration of complaints

Apr 24, 2008 | News

Registrations approved

New Zealand Pacific Party was registered today by the Electoral Commission, along with a logo for The Kiwi Party, and "The ACT Party" as an abbreviation for ACT New Zealand

Consideration of complaints

Three complaints were put before commissioners and remain under consideration.  These complaints each referred material which the complainants believed were election advertisements and so should have had promoter statements to comply with the law.  The items were a Green Party billboard, a New Zealand First newspaper advertisement, and a National Party pamphlet.

There was no further consideration of complaints put before commissioners at its previous meeting as legal advice is still awaited.

The commission meets next week to consider the allocation of broadcasting time and funds to political parties.  Its next regular meeting is scheduled for 19 May
