Voting places announced for 2026 election

Oct 7, 2026 | Media release

Voting places for the 2026 General Election have been confirmed with more than 2,300 open on election day across the country.

Advance voting starts on Monday 26 October and election day is Saturday 7 November.

“Our voting places are in locations people go in their daily lives including community halls, schools, shopping malls, places of worship, tertiary education providers and marae,” says Karl Le Quesne, Chief Electoral Officer.

“It’s important that every eligible New Zealander has the opportunity to vote. Whether you're in the heart of the city or in a rural area, we will have voting places across the country to make voting as easy as possible, including mobile voting services."

There are more than 220 Whare Pōti Māori voting places, which include marae, kura, wānanga and other community spaces and are chosen for their significance to Māori voters in local communities. This includes 67 bilingual (reo rua) voting places, where voters can go through the voting process in te reo Māori or English.

Accessible services include 1,679 fully accessible voting places, New Zealand Sign Language interpreters at six locations and three voting places with quiet times.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who is hosting voting places for us to support democracy in their communities,” says Karl Le Quesne.

 Finding your nearest voting place

Voters can find the list of voting places and opening hours on vote.nz. They can search for their nearest voting place on an interactive map or look up voting places by electorate and suburb.

“During advance voting, look out for a list of your nearest voting places at your local supermarket as this is a really easy way to find out where to vote in your community. People can also call us for free on 0800 36 76 56 and our team will be ready to help you find your nearest voting place,” says Karl Le Quesne.

“Anyone who cannot make it to a voting place should also give us a call. We have alternative voting options available.”

The days and times voting places are open during advance voting vary, so check before you go to vote.

This election, people need to be enrolled before voting starts as they will not be able to enrol at a voting place.

“The absolute last day to enrol to vote in this election is 25 October and voting starts on 26 October,” says Karl Le Quesne.

The easiest way to enrol or update your address is online at vote.nz using your New Zealand driver licence, New Zealand passport or RealMe verified identity.
