Advance voting ahead of 2023

Nov 2, 2026 | Media release

Advance voting in the 2026 General Election continues to track ahead of the last election.

913,762 votes were cast in the first seven days of voting from Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November, compared with 712,192 at the same point in 2023. The busiest day was Saturday 31 October when more than 190,000 votes were issued.

“Voting has got off to a good start, and there are still six more days to vote,” says Karl Le Quesne, Chief Electoral Officer.

About 600 voting places will be open each day this week in places where people live and work to make it easy to vote. The days and times voting places are open vary, so check before you go on vote.nz or by calling 0800 36 76 56.

On election day Saturday 7 November, more than 2,300 voting places will be open from 9am until the close of voting at 7pm.

“Take your EasyVote card with you if you have one when you go to vote,” says Karl Le Quesne. “You don’t need an EasyVote card to vote, but it makes voting faster. EasyVote cards were sent by a mix of email and post - check your email inbox or your letterbox for yours.”
