Two referrals to Police
The Electoral Commission has made two referrals to the Police, one on party donations and the other on candidate donations and election expenses.
One referral to the Police is for further investigation relating to failure to declare donations or aggregated donations over $30,000 made to the Māori Party within 10 working days.
Returns of donations to parties exceeding $30,000 are published on the Electoral Commission website.
A separate referral relates to the election expenditure and alleged non-disclosure of candidate donations by an electorate candidate at the 2020 General Election.
These referrals were made to the Police on 9 April. As these matters are now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
