Referrals to the police – 5 April 2016
Referrals to the Police for the Second Referendum on the New Zealand Flag.
On 5 April 2016, the Electoral Commission referred to Police fourteen instances of apparent dual voting and two instances of apparent theft of voting papers in the second flag referendum. Dual voting is an offence under section 33 and section 59(1) of the New Zealand Flag Referendums Act 2015.
As these matters are now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
