The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 29 June Parliamentary by-election in the electorate of Ikaroa-Rāwhiti.

In the 2013 Ikaroa-Rāwhiti by-election there were:

  • 34,008 people enrolled.
  • A total of 12,149 votes cast.
  • 2,470 advance votes.
  • 1,624 special votes, including 16 overseas votes.

The winning candidate majority was 1,659 votes.

Voter turnout for the 2013 Ikaroa-Rāwhiti by-election was 35.7% of the 34,008 people enrolled.

The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 16 July 2013 (assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2013 Ikaroa-Rāwhiti by-election held on Saturday 29 June 2013 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti electorate has been prepared.  All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
