Enrol now to vote in Local Elections

Aug 12, 2013 | Media release

Time is running out to enrol to vote for this year’s local elections, and the Electoral Commission is urging New Zealanders to act quickly.

“You will only get your voting papers sent to you if are enrolled by this Friday, 16 August,” says Murray Wicks, National Manager Enrolment Services.

“If you’ve been waiting until the last minute to update your details, the last minute is here. Do it now.”

Registrars of Electors have removed over 70,000 people nationwide from the electoral roll since the start of the enrolment drive on 1 July.  These people have changed address and not updated their enrolment details.

“That’s thousands of people who need to act now and enrol, or they will miss out on getting their local election voting papers sent to them. We want everyone who’s eligible to be enrolled and ready to have their say,” says Mr Wicks.

“Enrolling to vote is easy.”

Enrol to vote here, or freetext your name and address to 3676, call 0800 36 76 56 or go to any PostShop.  You can also check your details and enrol online at the website.
