The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 5 March Parliamentary by-election in the electorate of Botany.

In the 2011 Botany by-election there were:

  • 42,960 people enrolled.
  • A total of 15,655 votes cast.
  • 2,227 advance votes.
  • 741 special votes, including 19 overseas votes.
The winning candidate majority was 3,972 votes. 

Voter turnout for the 2011 Botany by-election was 36.44% of the 42,960 people enrolled.

The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 22 March 2011 (assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2011 Botany by-election held on Saturday 5 March 2011 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Botany electorate has been prepared. All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
