Just hours left to enrol to vote

Sept 15, 2005 | Media release

Time has almost run out for people to enrol to vote for this year's election - with just hours left to enrol.

"Enrolment closes on Friday 16 September. People can not enrol to vote on Election Day," says Murray Wicks, National Manager of the Electoral Enrolment Centre.

"If you're one of the 154,000 people who haven't enrolled by now go to any PostShop and fill in an enrolment form on the spot by the close of business on Friday. Alternatively, you can fill in a form online at

www.elections.org.nz and fax it to the number provided by midnight Friday.

"And if you've received an enrolment form but haven't sent it back, do it now. If you're posting your form back it must be in the post to meet Friday's clearance times for your enrolment to count," says Mr Wicks.

"If you haven't received an EasyVote pack then you are not enrolled correctly either fill in an enrolment form at any PostShop or online at www.elections.org.nz."

Figures show that 94.7% of eligible voters or 2.83 million people are already enrolled to vote at this year's election.

NB: Final enrolment figures will be available in the afternoon of Wednesday 21 September
